On June 16th, B.K.S. Iyengar attended the 2011 China / India Yoga Summit in Guangzhou, China. He met with important Chinese Tai chi and Bagua Kungfu masters, comparing yoga with Chinese physical and spiritual practices. It was one of the most significant cultural exchanges between two civilizations. The Chinese speakers at the summit likened B.K.S. Iyengar to the Bodhidharma (who brought Buddhism from India to China) and Lao Tzu (one of the founders of Taoism).
B.K.S Iyengar’s Death
Indian yoga guru B.K.S. Iyengar, who helped popularize yoga around the world and authored 17 books on the subject, died 20th August 2014 in Pune, India aged 95.
Bellur Krishnamachar Sundararaja Iyengar‘s death was reported on his website as well as major TV stations, which said he had been hospitalised with a kidney ailment over the past week from which he would not recover.
Iyengar created his own brand of yoga, called “Iyengar yoga,” and established studios in 72 countries where yoga practitioners are taught ways to improve breathing, concentration and meditation.
Despite suffering a heart attack at 80, he had continued to practise yoga into his 90s.
He suffered from ill health as a child but found that he could improve his strength by practising yoga, which he took up as a teenager.
In 2004, he was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine.
In a condolence message, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi described Iyengar as “a fine guru, scholar and a stalwart who brought yoga into the lives of many across the world.”

Guruji looks somewhat cool in those shades ?
Thank you so much for these!
Best to all.
Interesting to see how he used props, to provide support and probably comfort during the poses as he got older. He was a trail blazer for promoting the benefits of modern yoga.
Thank you.
