Explore

Arundel
Arundel is a picture postcard, almost fairytale type of town, dominated by its magnificent castle. The hilly and compact town centre is packed with lovely Georgian and Victorian houses and the High Street and Eagle Street are full of unusual independent shops. Arundel also has a vibrant artistic side, with many artists and sculptors living or working in the town.
Bignor – Roman Villa
Bignor is a lovely village in one of the quietest parts of West Sussex. Bignor is most famous for the Roman Villa, which lies on the slopes outside the village. These same slopes have a slightly Mediterranean feel to them too, because of the vineyard planted in neat rows, facing south towards the sun.
Fishbourne – Roman Palace
The Roman Palace at Fishbourne is a First-century home and archaeological site and with the largest collection of early Roman mosaic floors in Britain. The garden has been carefully replanted to its original plan which features box hedging and staked espalier fruit trees. There is also a Museum which tells the history of the site and displays many artefacts and the Collections Discovery Centre which houses the sensitive store, research room and conservation laboratory.
Beaches
West Sussex has some of the best beaches on the south coast of England. In the west of the county, there’s a huge expanse of sandy beach that stretches for miles from East Head to Selsey. Further east the beaches of Sussex run (almost interrupted) from Bognor Beach to Brighton with only the mouth of the Arun and the harbour at Shoreham intervening.
The South Downs Way
The South Downs Way is a magnificent 100 mile National Trail.
The South Downs Way covers 48 spectacular miles in West Sussex, making it one of the most rewarding walks in the south of England. If you enjoy the countryside, this is a walk not to miss out.
The Monarch’s Way
The Monarch’s Way is one of the great long distance walking and riding routes in England, wandering all the way from Worcester to Shoreham and tracing the path of the fleeing Prince Charles in 1651. In West Sussex the Monarch’s Way passes from Stansted Park along the Downs to Steyning, and then descends to Brighton and, ultimately, Shoreham-by-Sea. A truly historic route.
