Yoga teacher, broadcaster and writer, Lyn Marshall was born in London (1944 – 1992). She was best known as a yoga teacher who appeared on our TV screens in the 1970’s.
Lyn Marshall specialised in introducing Yoga in an easy-to-follow fashion to those who were new to yoga. Through her books, recordings and TV programs, she brought yoga to an even wider audience than ever before.
Lyn Marshall’s Yoga TV Series & Release Dates
Her first TV appearance was on the very popular ‘Yoga for Health’, led by yoga teacher Richard Hittleman. Yoga For Health was a very influential show and introduced millions to yoga. Basically, like the keep fit features on breakfast television in the eighties, the audience were expected to keep up with the presenters / students Richard Hittleman, Lynn Marshall and Cheryl, as they went through their paces.
Yoga For Health always seemed to be around somewhere on ITV in the seventies, either before the evening news or on Sunday mornings.
In 1975 ITV decided to replace Richard Hittleman’s Yoga for Health with Lyn Marshall’s very own yoga show, ‘Wake Up with Yoga’ which aired at 11am on Sunday mornings.
After the success of her first series, yoga teacher Lyn Marshall presented more programmes to help viewers lead fuller, healthier lives.

In addition to her TV work, Lyn Marshall also began to write books on yoga which helped spread the knowledge of yoga to the wider audience.

The importance of the 1970’s to yoga in the UK should not be lost. Through the introduction of yoga on ITV, the number of people practicing yoga in the UK increased tenfold from 5000-50,000 by 1971, and had doubled again by the end of the 1970’s.
It’s thanks to people like Lyn Marshall that yoga has become such a feature in our everyday lives.
