The Art of Teaching – a weekend dedicated to refining your teaching skills

Join Kate Ellis and Catherine Annis for a weekend devoted to the art of teaching yoga.  This weekend is designed specifically to help yoga teacher trainees develop their teaching skills and gain confidence in their teaching abilities.  During our time together, we’ll cover:

  • Body reading and anatomy
  • Touch and adjustments
  • Developing personal practice
  • Sequencing

There will be plenty of time to explore personal yoga practice and for questions you may have about any aspect of teaching, including questions about postures, the art of teaching, adjusting, class planning and organising and putting together courses and workshops.

Suitable for all teacher trainees and newly qualified teachers who have questions and would like to refine their teaching skills.

Relax And Release Scaravelli Inspired yoga with Catherine Annis PortraitCatherine Annis

Catherine is a member of the yoga teacher training faculty at London’s top yoga studios of triyoga in London, and is well known for her imaginative and practical approach to yoga.

Originally a professional dancer, she discovered yoga as a teenager, and has been  practicing for over 35 years.  Having studied various styles of yoga including Sivananda, Iyengar, Astanga and various forms of Hatha yoga, she eventually gravitated to the teachings of Vanda Scaravelli.

Catherine’s daily yoga practice and  teaching focuses on deepening physical awareness and  alignment to reveal and release the natural freedom of the body, particularly the spine.

She holds a Masters degree in ballet studies, and is a qualified Thai massage  practitioner, and it is this interest in the body which informs and inspires her teaching.

Underpinned by a profound understanding of anatomy, Kate teaches Hatha Yoga with an emphasis on the body as process, which can be explored to deepen self-knowledge. With a background in Bodywork and meditation, her teaching encourages students to go beyond performing poses to explore the dynamic and transitory experience of becoming present. In her own words:

“Alignment is not a fixed state but an inquiry into the various tensions and forces at play in the body where we are invited to listen and respond”.

Kate currently teaches on the triyoga Level 1 Teacher Training and the Yoga Therapy Diploma course run by Yoga Campus. She has over 5 years experience teaching and mentoring student teachers and has taught for over 10 years.

Travelling east on A27 from Worthing/Brighton, follow signs to Newhaven/Lewes. At the roundabout after the rail crossing you have a choice between Lewes and Newhaven; take A26 to Newhaven / Seaford. Alternatively follow the coast road A259 from Brighton to Newhaven. In Newhaven, follow sign to the left for Seaford A259.

Carry on the A259 until you reach Seaford and a mini roundabout with the train station on your right hand side. Stay on the A259 going out of town and continue in the direction of Eastbourne. You will come upon a small bridge spanning a water course. Continue over the single lane bridge and you will then come upon a farm house and the Seven Sisters Cycle hire shop on your left where the road begins to start to climb up a small hill. Approx 2 miles beyond these buildings, towards the crest of the hill there is a bus stop on the right hand side of the road where you will find the entrance to the private road leading to Gayles.
